Chilly Ending to October

I know Halloween is not over yet, but already I feel Thanksgiving. It has been chilly and wet, a constant drizzle reminiscent of forming snowflakes hit and glide down the glass. After the air conditioner quit the week we went to Santa Fe, the furnace quit this week as temps dipped at night in to high 30’s and low 40’s. It all is too much like winter for this one! But I am holding out that sometime in November, which starts on Sunday, an Indian Summer will show one more time before this autumn ends.

Men are under the house banging on replacing the furnace as I write.  DH has been sick a bit, and he gave into letting Lennox install new units. That is enough for Thanksgiving right there. We have always done everything ourselves, but it feels good this morning hearing voices under the house and knowing none are calling for me to be “go for” or my needing to respond to a banging on the pipes to bring something under the house!

Meanwhile table is set for company and a family meal. Birthday gifts from friends helped decorate for autumn this year. I already have a dash of turkeys out and about. I love the new white pilgrims, something different.

Sorry about your furnace. It always seems to be something. Your doilies and lace and festive decorations look warm and inviting. I too am hoping for one more hurrah. Maybe next weekend? Happy birthday.

It will be good to enter winter with a reliable furnace. (Reminds me that we probably ought to get ours serviced - a maintenance item that we too frequently put off....) Last year when sorting and shedding decorations, I basically combined Halloween and Thanksgiving with a strong nod toward Thanksgiving. Turkeys abound :)

I love all your pretty fall decorations! Makes me wish I had more of them for my house. Hope the furnace and all goes well and hubby gets better.

Nice photos of your festive decorations. I am 5 days into a week's residency at The Writers Colony at Dairy Hollow in Eureka Springs, writing, critiquing, reading, meeting new and old friends here--that sort of thing. Took photos of the color in the trees and on the ground this afternoon. Will post them when I return home on Saturday. Always glad to see scenes in your home. xoxoPL

Oh gosh, Claudia. Wouldn't you know the furnace would fizzle out just when you need it most. Hope it's warm and toasty there now.

Your decor looks lovely. Hope the birthday dinner was wonderful.

Thanks for all your visits. Susan

Claudia, your pictures are lovely, so welcoming and warm. When you get your new furnace, the temperature will match the beauty. But of course as soon as the furnace is installed, you'll get a wonderful burst of Indian summer!
I notice you and your husband also saw BRIDGE OF SPIES (this information via the previous post.) Jim and I saw it two days ago when Colorado Springs was rainy and cold, and we really applaud the movie! We knew most of the "exchange" issues, especially about Gary Powers, but we were very interesting in the graduate student and looked it up as soon as we came home.
We loved the new information we learned!

Love your decorations! You're all ready for Thanksgiving, a much overlooked holiday. It seems that it often becomes crunched between Halloween and Christmas. Your home is so inviting.
