Enduring the Cold

Winter is always bad for eating as are the holidays. When housebound by ice and snow before Christmas, well, it is an eating frenzy. Using the oven makes the house toasty and the kitchen smell homey. But at this rate, we might not be able to get out the front door by Christmas. Maybe Santa can show us his secret?

                                                        Lunch--sausage and cheese quiche

DH warmed up his shop and went out to build with wood. That was good because then I put on the Christmas CD’s and turned up the volume so the music floated over the rattle of the washer and dryer. I lit a balsam candle to finish the mood. DH hates Christmas music. Are there any men who do like Christmas music? Surely there are, but I don’t know them. This morning I used the new Susan Boyle HOME FOR CHRISTMAS. It is beautiful…

We too have had all the wonderful comfort foods that stretch the waistline! I think it might be the hibernation effect; our DNA is programmed to eat carbs and sleep away the dark, cold days.

I am carbing it up here. That quiche looks good.

It is SOOO cold in Colorado now--and like in southeast Kansas, it feels too early for the freeze to set it here--but cooking is my refuge, too.

Jim is okay with Christmas CDs, but he isn't happy when I play them so loud and start dancing around the kitchen and singing along at the top of my voice! I'm making special goodies to mail to family and take back with us when we go to visit Mom. I just hope the weather improves.

Stay warm and festive!

Sounds dreamy, my friend. Can I come over and have a cup of Christmas tea with you? I don't mind the cold. I'm a face-freezing weather kind of girl! Your handling of the cold sounds delightful. Susan

It is a nice time of the year to stay indoors and bake , and sing along with the Christmas tunes. It sounds to me like an ideal way to spend a cold day. ( although my husband loves Christmas music, it makes him very happy )

Surely your husband is a happy man when he comes back indoors to find what you've been busy preparing in the kitchen. That looks so good.

I know what you mean about eating in the winter and the holidays. Oh and like Gus the ape that you talked about in the previous post. I plan to do some baking tomorrow. Love how the house smells too. Oh and I use ALL kinds of spices! (from another post) - I'm behind once again! Oh yeah, the holidays and stuff.
