Today's prompt: an involuntary gasp of shock escaped my lips when I opened the shoebox and saw the pointy-toed shoes
Today's prompt: an involuntary gasp of shock escaped my lips when I opened the shoebox and saw the pointy-toed shoes
If the shoe doesn't fit......
I was cleaning the overstuffed closet, tossing out peeled sweaters, trousers with missing buttons. Purging was harder than it used to be--bending, squatting, reaching, puffing for a tad more air.I tossed out sandals missing buckles, loafers with heels worn to an angle, and hats with crushed brims. Then an involuntary gasp of shock escaped my lips when I opened the shoebox and saw the pointy-toed shoes...
I looked down at thick ankles, felt aching knees, a lump formed in my throat. I wouldn’t wear toothpick-thin red heels ever again. They still sparkled, but I didn’t. When had it happened, the loss of elastic body, that dash of vigor, the zest of youth prancing on dainty feet?

Oh I can so relate! Try googling that info again; it came up for the others. You should get a chuckle.
Oh boy, you're hittin' me right where it hurts here...
To say I can relate is an understatement.
Well done.
=)
Oh how sad. Such a poignant post!
When were you in MY closet? I guess we all need to realize our limitations sometimes, even in clothing.
Great job!
What a sad story--we all have to lose that some day I guess.

Oh boy, do I know those feelings. I wonder what happened all the time ;-) Great true to life centus.
Or maybe with age comes the wisdom to ditch cruel shoes in favor of comfort. :)
It's in the water I say! Because the same thing happened to me. This was great!! ~Ames
This reminds me of my grandmother's late in life woes. Great job with this prompt.
Hahaha! You and I think alike! Great post!!
Gravity hits us harder as we get older...well, we have the memories at the very least...good post.
so true ... sensible shoes just don't do if for me ... yet, they fit ...
Well done! Spooky how you have touched a nerve with some of us who are of a certain age. Personally, on some days, my ankles look like dough is rising out of my shoes!
Namaste.........cj
What started out as funny turned to poignant as I read farther.
This story really hit home for me...even though I never wore pointy shoes!
Thanks for a great link.
Cleaning closets can be emotionally trying, not just physically exhausting!
This is a text with punch, that I am sure many can relate to. Shoes as markers of the passing of time.
Nice SC.
Best wishes
